mupig 语录

it’s been a long time since i last posted words of wisdom from mini men..

mupig: 爸爸,McDonald’s 不好吃,可是有玩具。爸爸,(如果)McDonald’s 没有玩具,(就)没有人吃 McDonald’s 了。

A rough translation would be.. “Papa, the food at McDonald’s is not nice but there are toys. Papa, if there are no toys at McDonald’s, then nobody would eat there.”

*****************************

Last evening, mupig was playing doctor. After checking my temperature using the toy thermometer and using the toy stethoscope to listen to my tummy, he held up the toy syringe..

mupig: 妈咪,你要吃药还是打针?
cJ: 我要打针。
mupig: 不要啦!打针是最痛的啦!

such a thoughtful doctor.. X’D

what’s up? my dress size, of course!

running

20130913_00
so i’ve packed a few pounds this year and i now weigh as much as i did when i was three months pregnant (with twins, OMG). since i can’t give up eating so many times a day (I’D RATHER DIE THAN BE HUNGRY), i thought i could at least stop or slow down my weight gain with some exercise X’D

after my first run, my running shoes gave me a BIG SMILE (see pic above). some of you may not know, i am now an unemployed mother of two, the thought of buying new shoes did not occur to me, even though these shoes are older than my kids and the sole probably fell off because they felt neglected, unloved in the shoe cabinet.

i glued the sole back and prayed for the best.

and next time i ran in these goddamned shoes again? THEY SMILED AT ME AGAIN.

alright, i should get me some new shoes after all >m<

20130913_01
i LOVE my new running shoes~ they’re light as air but provides good cushioning support. an old lady with creaking knees like me should always ensure that her shoes provide sufficient support as her knees might not be able to support her body weight if she continues her sedentary lifestyle.

i have worn the shoes ONCE. yes, i know i am not the most motivated runner you know of, heh.. *hangs head in shame*

sewing

nothing interesting. i made two dresses from FEMALE Summer Edition 2013 (reviewed here).

20130913_02
this looks like a hospital gown. i lengthened the bodice but forgot to shorten the skirt so it ends at around my knees X’D

20130913_03
i like this better although i forgot to lengthen the bodice.. luckily i am flat-chested enough for the waistband to hover somewhere near my natural waist -__-

if i make this again, i may need to make it bigger too.. i think it looks nicer if it’s really loose and baggy >m<

wirework

20130913_04
wire rings made using craft wire, glass beads (left), swarvoski crystals (middle), and glass beads (right). i used gauge 24 craft wire because i didn’t want to exert too much energy on bending the wires.. you know, nowadays i’m not too fond of calloused fingers and ruined nails.

20130913_05
and when i’m not making things, i’m reading. i’ve completed 3 books in the last week — Still Bleeding (very interesting concept and i keep getting goosebumps while reading the book… i really wish the author had provided more explanation for how the “secret organization” functioned!), Never Knowing (second book by Chevy Stevens. i like her first book better), Millie’s Fling (i like Jill Mansell for her sense of humour. this is a no-stress romance story but there are too many annoying characters inside for me to enjoy the whole book. i really like the main characters though :D)

i guess i am trying to squeeze more out of my remaining months of freedom. it’s hard to imagine that in a few months’ time, i’ll be spending 60% of my waking hours “chained” to a desk and the other 5-10% on the public transport, 20-25% with the kids and maybe 5-10% to myself (pee-ing, poo-ing, bathing).

so.. cheers to being a slacker!

failed project — fixing a torn t-shirt

so the other day i was cutting the labels off some $9.90 T-shirts i bought during a sale and i absent-mindedly left the pair of scissors on the bed while i turned around to scoop up the stack of clothing labels to throw away. when i turned back about THREE seconds later, mupig was holding this T-shirt in his left hand, and the pair of scissors in his right hand.

yep, he cut a hole in my new T-shirt TuT

20130903_133824
it was hardly noticeable given the busy print on the T-shirt.. but me being me.. i was too conscious about it so i decided that i had to fix it.

before you scroll further, let me warn you that this is one of the times where the “fixed” clothing actually looks worse after fixing.. oh well..

20130903_133844
see what i mean about the hole being barely noticeable? try spotting the hole in this close-up picture.

20130903_133900
i took some cotton thread leftover from making this collar and started to crochet a small flower. due to the position of the hole, the flower looked super obiang -_-!! this is a bad sign isn’t it? i should’ve stopped before i actually sewed onto the poor t-shirt.. but i was full of confidence and persevered in finding a “perfect solution” to fix the hole..

20130903_134120
and so i added two leaves and a random stem.

20130903_140644
here’s how it looks after i sewed down the crochet stuff.

20130903_140701
for some reason, the flower hardly showed up in my photos.

20130903_140859
arghhh… although the finished t-shirt looks very weird, i guess i’ll keep it this way. the weird flower is what makes it unique X’D

crochet collar + crochet tawashi + what i’ve been doing

crochet collar

20130902_01
i made a crochet collar last weekend!

20130902_02
the crocheting is completed but the collar still lacks a button >m<

20130902_03
here’s how it looks on a 34-year-old human being

20130902_04
and here is how it looks without the human being :’D

i wish i have some pearl buttons at home to complete the project *sulks*

20130902_05
this is the pattern i used. fell in love with it when i was browsing this book (The Beautiful Lace Knottig Life (Chinese Edition)) at Kinokuniya last saturday. the husband was tricked into buying the book for me. just because. X’D

crochet tawashi

20130902_06
i hooked non-stop last weekend and made a few crochet tawashi. like what everybody says, these are so quick to make and really good for scrubbing sinks, taps, drinking glasses~ don’t just take our word for it, make a few yourself today!

i bought the kit from daiso a few years ago and each comes with two small balls of acrylic yarn and the pattern. the pattern is just a simple hexagonal design. the flower pattern is from this website, sibeh cute right?

the pink tawashi is intended to be used for washing dishes so i joined two hexagonal pieces together and gave it a hiao hiao flirty frilly edge.

what i’ve been doing

in my absence from the Internet, i’ve been to the library (to borrow books for myself, not the kids), read the storybooks i borrowed for myself and actually had nightmares about the stories >m<!! i also sewed up a pretty nursing poncho for my neo sister! i forgot to take proper photos so the photo below was stolen shamelessly from her facebook X’D

20130902_07

and the book that gave me the creeps? it’s Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. i saw her latest book at Kinokuniya last weekend but being the frugal housewife i am, i shall wait for the library to stock this title.. X’D

P/S: i am really enjoying the last four months of my no-pay leave ^_^
