use an eraser to clean up the colouring before you merge the bottom layer to the top.
if you have forgotten how... select the layer unify tool, click on first layer, drag the rectangle around the
ares you want to merge, then click on the bottom layer. the contents will be merged on the first layer.
for the hair, i picked three shades of brown. i coloured the entire mess of hair with the darkest colour. next, i used a large
brush with medium opacity (A=200) and drew up-and-down along the centre part of the hair.
finally, using the lightest shade (highlight), at a low A of about 150, i drew in the highlights in the part of the hair.
how do you know where to highlight? hold up a strand of hair and form it into a "C" shape. place a lamp on your left.
note that the hair on your left hand side reflects light , at the bend of the "C". so there, when drawing a hairstyle like this, imagine each
individual strand to be shaped like a "C". the protruding bend will pick up more light and appear shiny. do your highlighting
there :')
clean up :'D
ok, you can merge everything onto the first layer now
fill the bottom layer with any bright colour. any mistakes will be made obvious by the bottom colour.
now is your chance to do a final cleanup :'D
see how yucky the mess is? cleaning up against a brightly-coloured background ensures that the tiny spots
are not missed
